For the love of dogs

“Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them, Filling an emptiness we don't even know we have.”

I never had kids of my own, not necessarily by my own choice, but because life just didn’t work out that way. So throughout my life, my dogs have been my kids, as well as my siblings kids, my parents other kids, and a huge part of my family. Murphy, Bailey, Max, Dave, Cody, Sadie, George, Roscoe, Sage, Yogi are just some of the beautiful creatures who were either mine or part of my family. In 2016, a 2 year old rescue lab walked into my life, and although I was originally going to just foster her, when she came into my home she made herself quite comfortable with her new toys and big smiles, and I knew she wasn’t going anywhere. She was sick, scared, had been abused and needed someone to love her and I was happy to be that person.

Throughout the seven years I had Pearl, she was always by my side (literally!). She got me through Covid, heartbreak, a major surgery, she travelled with me throughout the US in 2021 while we stayed in AirBNBs and worked remotely, she moved to Colorado from Chicago with me, she was my ride or die and my best friend. She was my “heart” dog, my muse and I have so many photos of her I can’t even count them all. She was my family.

When I tell people to bring the dogs, all the dogs! to their shoots I truly mean it! Dogs are family, and to some people they are their only family. They bring such joy, laughter and sometimes chaos to our lives. I truly believe that dogs pick their people - I believe Pearl picked me. They give more love than many humans can, they teach us so much more than we can teach them, and they are so darn cute. I could photograph dogs all day, any day. By themselves, with their humans, with other dogs, you name it. Those goofy smiles, head tilts and soulful eyes melt my heart.

Below are some of the many dogs I have photographed throughout the years. For my dog portfolio click here.

This post is dedicated to my girl, Pearl, who passed away one year ago on 4/27/23. She taught me more about love than I could have ever imagined.
